Intended or not, I wouldn't have minded if they'd ended up together - but this is Bollywood remember! All in all, fantastic fun which I plan to watch again and again. The core theme of friendship is a delight - as are the subtle homo-erotic overtones of Akash and Sid's relationship. Siddharth is the more serious of the trio. Sameer is always 'ready' for love-but does not know its true meaning. But that aside, it has all the attributes of a good old fashioned Hollywood romance. Dil Chahta Hai is the story of three friends - Akash is fun-loving, non-believer in love.
Interestingly, the song album, which is now revered across generations of listeners and for the first time incorporated different elements of world music, received a lukewarm response from labels at the time of release. The ability to suspend one's disbelief is a necessity. Years have been kind to Dil Chahta Hai and it still remains one of the most revisited, comfort films of Hindi cinema. As with all Hindi films, it is pure melodrama of course. The song and dance routines are as welcome as they are surprising. The cinematography is beautiful - especially in the Australian sequences. The three lead actors are gorgeous - so it hardly matters that they must be the oldest students in town. It's a corker! Fresh, invigorating, romantic, bizarre even! They don't make films like this in the West - and more's the pity but hence the freshness. Dil Chahta Hai is a Hindi album released in 2001.There are a total of 9 songs in Dil Chahta Hai.The songs were composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, a talented musician.Listen to all of Dil Chahta Hai online on JioSaavn.
I stumbled over this film on late night TV and immediately ordered the DVD.
